Hobbs kicks ten in Bombers massive win
Judah Hobbs kicked ten goals in Noradjuha Quantong's 178-point win over Kaniva Leeor at the Quantong Recreation Reserve in round nine of the Horsham District Football Netball League.
The recruit was on fire as the Bombers took an early 27-point lead into quarter time.
The Bombers were massive in the second quarter, kicking eight goals and six behinds to lead by 62 points at half time.
With the game sewn up, the Bombers didn't stop and were relentless in the third quarter kicking another 11 goals to take a 111-point lead into the last break.
Needing a percentage booster, they didn't hold up as they kicked another 11 goals to win 34.14.218 to 6.4.40.
Along with Hobbs' haul, Dawson Cross and James Hallett both kicked six and five goals respectively with James Gregg, Dyson Parish and James Officer also among the best on the ground.
For the Cougars, Jock Maddern kicked two goals with Hamish Bennett, Billy King and Daniel White among their best players.
Last round against Kalkee the Bombers suffered a few key injuries to Damian Cameron, Zac Kelly and Dylan Shelley and didn't play as well as they would have liked, so Cameron said before the match he wanted his players to relax and do what they do best.
"I just told the boys to have a crack and have a good time and don't feel the pressure from the outside and it was by far our best performance since I have been at the club," Cameron said.
"Everyone did their role and the feeling after the game from ex-players and committee members was that it was the best four-quarter performance in many years.
"We stuck to our guns and played a good brand of footy which we don't normally do. This season our three losses were because we didn't put four quarters together."
"We nailed it on Saturday and got it right and it was a good day to be a part of."
Swifts with slick win over Demons
At North Park, eight goals to Paul Summers have led the Swifts to a 66-point win over Laharum.
The Swifts were hot early, kicking five goals to two to take a 21-point lead into quarter time.
The Demons could only manage one goal in the third quarter whilst the Swifts added another four to take a 39-point lead into half time.
The third quarter was much the same as the first half with the Swifts extending the lead to 63 points at the last break.
To the Demons' credit, they never gave up and fought to the end in the 18.7.115 to 7.7.49 scoreline.
Ryan Folkes was best on the ground with Noah Stirling, Scott Carey and Bourke Nicholls also amongst the Baggies best.
For the Demons, Robbie Miller kicked two goals with Jarrod Kemp, John Doyle and Brett Ervin among their best players.
Swifts coach Brett Hargreaves said they knew it was a danger game and prepared accordingly.
"Laharum has been playing well and their strongest asset is their midfield and we were worried about it and I put it onto our on-ballers to get the job done," Hargreaves said.
"It was a team effort and we applied a lot of pressure which made them turn the ball over and we moved it quickly."
The Swifts recruited Andrew Cameron and Chevy Elliott from Great Western over the bye week, and both players had an impact.
"Andrew is a premiership player with Great Western and is a past player for us and he played on the wing and his skills are great and he is hard to beat," Hargreaves said.
"Chevy was great across the half back flank and both players will add a lot to our team and we are strengthened because of it."
Noah Stirling also had a good game which Hargreaves highlighted.
"Noah has been in the seniors for his third year and he is turning into an important player for us," Hargreaves said.
"He is a "Mr. Fix It" and can play either end and we can also put him through the middle. On Saturday he played across half-forward and kicked three goals.
"He is versatile as a tall or small, and he is starting to come out and play well which is pleasing to see."
Demons coach Shannon Argall said the boy's resilience at the end of the game was good to see.
"The Swifts were a slick side yesterday and started to get on top in the midfield and got that run and carry game going and our backline was under the pump with the quality of their forward fifty entries," Argall said.
"At three-quarter time, I thought they might blow us out a little bit, but to the boy's credit, they showed resilience and determination and we had our opportunities to win the quarter but to run out the game like we did was pleasing.
"There is a lot we can take from the game and learn from."
Saints stun Tigers on home turf
Edenhope Apsley secured their second win of the year with a 40-point win over Pimpinio at Edenhope Football Ground.
The Tigers came out firing early to take a seven-point lead into quarter time. In the second quarter, the Saints started to get on top and took a five-point lead into half time.
In the third quarter, the Saints kicked three goals to two to go into the main break with a 13-point lead.
In the last quarter, the Saints blew the Tigers away kicking five goals, five behinds to one goal to win 15.11.101 to 9.7.61.
Charlie Campbell and Fraser Thompson kicked an equal game-high four goals for the Saints with Adam Hood, Flynn Loft and Heath Keatley great through the middle.
For the Tigers, Jason Westley continued his good season with another great performance with Mackay Baker, Brock Hamerston and Thomas Baker among the best.
The game had a few dubious umpire decisions but the Saints played well and coach Adi
Campbell said they played to their game plan.
"The boys played well and are finally playing to the game plan that we are setting out," Campbell said.
"Adam Hood, Flynn Loft and Heath Keatley were great through the midfield for us and Shayne Williams did a massive job on Matt Rosier, not only stopping his impact but getting a lot of football himself.
"Now we have a good win under our belt and the confidence is up, if we play like we did on the weekend, I am confident we can play finals."
Southern Roos thrash an undermanned Kalkee
At Balmoral Recreation Reserve, an undermanned Kalkee stood no chance against a full-strength Southern Roos, with the home side winning by 142 points.
The Southern Roos came out firing to lead by 27 points at quarter time before a seven-goal second quarter extended the margin to 62 points at half time.
In the second half, the Southern Roos added another 13 goals, keeping the Kees goalless to run out 26.12.168 to 3.8.26 winners.
Michael Close kicked a game-high seven goals in the win with Rhys Daffey and Nick Pekin chipping in with four goals apiece.
Cody Deutscher was best on the ground with Jai Thompson and Will Burbury also among the Roos best.
For Kalkee, Andrew Devereaux was their best player down back with Jakob Butcher, Patrick Mills and Douglas Grining also solid.
Southern Roos coach Jai Thompson was thrilled they played four quarters.
"We played the footy we wanted to play, but most importantly, we played all four-quarters which is something we haven't been able to do," Thompson said.
The only troubling news to come out of the win was a knee injury to Brait Headon.
Huge first half sets up Panthers win over Natimuk
Rupanyup defeated Natimuk by 47 points at Natimuk Showgrounds, set up by a first-quarter blitz.
In the opening quarter, the Panthers shut out the home side to lead by 33 points at quarter time. In the second, Natimuk fought hard to trail by 30 points at the main break.
The Panthers blew them away in the third quarter kicking six goals to one. In the last quarter, Natimuk outscored the Panthers, but the Panthers comfortably held them to win 15.14.104 to 8.9.57.
Brayden Ison kicked a game-high four goals for the Panthers with Cam Weston best on the ground with three goals. Mitchell Gleeson, Kieran Sait, Bill Hansen and Kane Timmins were also brilliant for the Panthers.
