Hopetoun P-12 wrap-up: term 1, weeks 7 & 8

By the Community Connections Class

NAPLAN started last week on Wednesday the 11th of March, for the Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. The participating students started off with a lovely breakfast each morning, thanks to Rexanne. On the first day, students completed the Writing test, then on Thursday students completed both the Reading and Language Conventions (spelling and grammar) tests, and Friday students completed the Numeracy test.

On Tuesday the 17th of March, the Year 9 cohort ran Harmony Day during Periods 3&4. The day began with performances from the P-3s, 4-6s, and Year 7 form group classes. For the rest of the session, each form group ran a station, themed around a set country, with an associated activity. These stations were spread throughout the Hub, Stadium, and the Back Court. Students in each year level took turns running their activity, giving others the chance to experience different form groups’ activities. All students participated enthusiastically and thoroughly enjoyed all the stations on offer.

On Tuesday the 17th of March, during Period 5, Dr. Susan Lewis, who is a part of the Royal Flying Doctors, visited Hopetoun P-12 College and presented a Women’s Health Talk to all the Years 9-12 girls and some mothers. Dr. Lewis was incredibly knowledgeable and had lots of practical recommendations. The girls all enjoyed the talk and found it very informative.

SRC have organised their executive roles for 2026! The President is Esther, Vice President is Jackob, Secretary is Spencer, and Treasurer is Claire. The SRC team has started to prepare and brainstorm ideas for the events and fundraisers that they would like to run throughout the year.

Charlie travelled down to Shepperton as part of the Warracknabeal Wildcats team for their Junior Country Championships. On the first day, the team played 3 games. They played Swan Hill, Shepparton, and Sale. The team was very successful on the first day and won those 3 games. On the second day, the team played 3 more games, including a quarter final, semi-final, and the grand final. Unfortunately, the team was unlucky and lost to Surf Coast in the grand final.

Lena, Luca, Olivia, and Mia all have been selected for the 2026 Wimmera Inter League Team for Netball. They have all commenced training in preparation for upcoming tournaments. Lena and Luca have been selected for the under 17s side, Olivia was selected for the under 15s development side, and Mia was selected for the under 13s side. They are all very excited to get the chance to play in another team and represent their clubs.

The Presentation Ball is coming up very fast, and the participants have been practicing their dances, making sure to do the steps correctly. With only a week left, students are starting to practice the special dances, which involve guests chosen by students. Everyone is starting to get excited, and all are looking forward to the night, however, there is a little bit of nervous energy. The Presentation Ball will be held at Hopetoun Memorial Hall. Doors open at 6:30pm and the presentation starts at 7:00pm. Tickets are available on the night, $20 for adults, $15 for Secondary, and $5 for Primary and, please note, that it is cash only and BYO nibbles and drinks.
