Hopetoun P-12 wrap-up – term 2, weeks 3-4
By the Community Connections Class

On Friday, May 1, the primary students travelled to Beulah to take part in the Cluster Cross Country, where they represented Hopetoun P-12 College whilst competing alongside other schools.
It was a great opportunity for students to get involved and challenge themselves. In the afternoon, students also participated in tryouts for Southern Mallee Lakes netball and football, showcasing their skills and enthusiasm.
On May 1, 15 secondary students travelled to Nhill to compete in the next level of athletics.
It was a great day of competition, with several students placing in their events. Well done to all who participated and proudly represented the school.
Congratulations to Lena, Axel, Ben, Maxwell, Charlie, Denzel, Mia, and Emily, who all have qualified for the next level.
On Friday, May 8, we hosted Muffins for Mothers (and Others) Day.
The Prep to Year 6 students invited their Mothers, Grandmothers, and loved ones to a fun morning at school to celebrate the upcoming Mother’s Day.
The families took part in various activities, such as ‘guess the silhouette’, hand massages, planting flowers, a big selection of games, and a photo booth.
The event was a great chance to celebrate the important people in our students’ lives and who they really appreciate.
Thank you to everyone who came and helped make the morning special.
Do It For Dolly Day is recognised on May 8th every year, encouraging all Australians to “Go Blue” to end bullying in memory of Dolly Everett. Schools, communities, and workplaces may donate to the Dolly’s Dream website or fundraise to support anti-bullying.
The Hopetoun P-12 students and staff all supported the Do It For Dolly Day over two days, and kept in their minds the importance of standing up to bullying.
On Friday, May 8, the school hub was decorated in blue butterflies as blue was Dolly’s favourite colour and butterflies are a symbol of kindness.
On Tuesday, May 12, the students and staff all came to school wearing blue to support anti-bullying for the fundraiser.
In Buddies, SRC hosted a session which involved watching a video about the story behind Dolly’s Dream and then breaking off into groups and writing kind things on blue butterflies to eventually make into a kindness wall.
Throughout the whole week, a colouring competition and a ‘guess the number of blue lollies in the jar’ competition have been running.
Blake, Axel, Ben, Maxwell, Lilly, Toby, Sophie, Elka, Ned, Layla, and Emily all travelled to Kaniva on Monday the 11th of May to participate in the Little Desert Cross Country.
It was a great opportunity for the students to enjoy being active and represent their school with pride, while taking part in a fun and supportive day of competition.
Well done to all the students for participating in cross country and congratulations to those who have qualified for the next level.
