Hopetoun P-12 Wrap Up – Term 2 Weeks 9 & 10
By the Community Connections Class
During Term 2, Ben and Spencer have attended the Youth Ambassador Program.
This involves the boys travelling to the program on a Wednesday, either by having their parents drive them or by taking the Vline bus to Ballarat, where they transfer onto a train to Melbourne.
The boys stay two nights in apartments near Flagstaff Gardens with fellow students.
So far, they have participated in two forums and several conferences, covering a wide range of topics, including racism and school facilities.
At the moment, they are working in groups to discuss issues within schools and prepare presentations on possible solutions.
On Thursdays, they head to the Department of Education.
The experience has been very enjoyable.
They would highly recommend it to other students because it benefits both the students involved and their schools.
One of the best parts for them is meeting students from different schools, as everyone is very welcoming and supportive, making it easy to feel included.
On Monday, June 15, Sophie, Ava, Amelia, Elka, Popi, and Emily travelled to Horsham to play Netball alongside students from Rainbow College.
The girls played four games and came away with one win, with the other three matches being very close contests.
Throughout the day, the girls showed great teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship.
They enjoyed the opportunity to play Netball with other students and gained valuable experience while representing the school.
Hopetoun P-12 College has recently welcomed a new Educational Support staff member Anna Wilson.
Anna is a hairdresser by trade.
She has had a few different jobs in between, but her focus is now the role of being an ES.
Anna likes her new job of being an ES staff.
She likes how everyday is different and she gets to learn more about students and see them improve.
She finds it a very rewarding role.
Anna enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, crocheting, and renovating her home.
Anna’s family consists of her fiancé, Leighton, and four daughters: Belle, Ava, Raleigh, and Evie.
On Tuesday, June 23, students from Years 9-12 attended the Greater Western Careers Expo.
The students had the opportunity to explore a wide range of future career pathways.
Throughout the day, students visited displays, spoke with representatives from different industries, and gained valuable information about further education, training opportunities, apprenticeships, and potential career options.
The Expo allowed students to ask questions, collect resources, and develop a better understanding of the many pathways available after school.
Students enjoyed the experience and appreciated the chance to learn more about planning for their futures.
