Hopetoun P-12 wrap up – Week 8 Term 3
By the Community Connections Class

Melbourne Holocaust Museum
On Tuesday, September 9, our Year 10s and 11s were fortunate enough to have an online meeting with the Melbourne Holocaust Museum (MHM).
Grace, who was taking the session, taught us about the life of Jewish people before, during and after the horrific event of the Holocaust.
In the meeting, Grace took us on an online tour of the MHM’s exhibition ‘Everybody Had a Name’, where we were able to engage with the oral histories of Holocaust survivors and see some artifacts that they held on to.
Grace showed us breadcards which people would hand in to receive their rations of food throughout the war. We also saw jewellery, which two friends made secretly and meticulously during their time in the concentration camps.
We would like to thank Grace and the Melbourne Holocaust Museum for giving up their time to teach us about the significant event of the Holocaust.
Doughnuts for Dads and Special Friends
On Friday, September 5, at Hopetoun P-12 College, the primary students hosted Doughnuts for Dads and Special Friends.
It was held during Periods 1 and 2, in the Hub, and the car park was overflowing with all the dads and special friends coming early to participate in a variety of activities, like basketball, netball, hand painting, and a photo booth.
For all this to smoothly operate, they were separated into four different groups that were assigned by colour: yellow, blue, red, and green.
They rotated through the activities shown on their bingo cards every 10 minutes. Once everyone had completed the activities, everyone came back to the Hub to participate in a scavenger hunt.
After the fun but tiring activities, they got to enjoy some doughnuts and coffee to finish off their productive morning.
Overall, it was an amazing morning for everyone to remember.
Elevate Session
On Thursday, September 4, all high school students had sessions with a company called Elevate in Room 5.
The students were put into two different groups, Year 7-9 and Year 10-12.
The Year 10-12 students had the first session of the day, and they learnt about how to prepare for exams, manage stress and wellbeing, and what they could do while on holidays.
After that session, it was the Year 7-9 students' turn to learn about time management and how to best prepare for their studies.
Then, after recess, the Year 10-12 students had another session called ‘a guide to success’, where they were taught about mapping their motivation, their beliefs, goal settings and short-term goals, and planning.
In the end, the students got a lot out of everything they learnt.
R U OK Day
On Tuesday, September 9, the Year 9 Advance class prepared chicken and beef gravy rolls for lunch for everyone to enjoy.
There were even options for gluten free students.
What is R U OK Day? R U OK Day is a name of an Australian national suicide prevention charity and public health promotion campaign that encourages people to have meaningful conversations with those who may be struggling with life’s challenges.
All of this is the reason why we acknowledge R U OK Day because you never know if someone truly is okay.
