Locals enjoyed coffee, cake, and a raffle, with strong community support helping the group surpass expectations, on Thursday, September 18.

Hopetoun Red Cross president Val Carra said she was proud of the effort.

“Just so proud, as it wasn’t hard work at all — everyone baked a cake, and it was wonderful standing there greeting people on such a beautiful day,” she said.

The event featured a raffle, won by Carmen Cooke, alongside tables laden with homemade cakes and slices.

Ms Carra highlighted that Hopetoun’s branch has one of the largest memberships in the country.

“We have the largest membership in the whole of Victoria,” she said.

“We have a total of 45 Red Cross members.”

Funds raised will help support vital Red Cross volunteer services across Victoria, including transporting people to medical appointments and making phone calls to check in on those living alone.

“It’s all done by volunteers, but the funding goes to cover the phone calls, cars and petrol,” she said.

She also thanked the community for rallying behind the cause.

“Thank you to Hopetoun for supporting us once again,” she said.

“They support Red Cross very well we never have anyone knock us back.”
