Horsham City defeat Nhill in prelim thriller
Horsham City will meet Horsham Golf in the Wimmera Playing Area Division One weekend pennant finals after just overcoming Nhill in the preliminary final on Saturday, February 21.
Playing in hot conditions at Dimboola, no more than four shots separated each of the three rinks as Horsham City ultimately defeated Nhill 71-66.
Rink one saw Nhill just edge out Horsham City 28-27, as the team of Ray Olney, Barry Cramer and Ivan Reichelt, skippered by Allan King, defeated Colin Morrell, Bruce Campbell, and John Burchell, skippered by Anthony King.
Horsham City’s team of William Hogan, Graham McDonald, Duncan Bottoms and skipper Ron Dolby defeated Nhill’s Brad Blackwood, Matthew Morrison, Ryder Byrnes and skipper Kevin Jones 22-18.
Horsham City won rink three 22-20 as the team of John Lehmann, Douglas Mitchell and Kevin Smith, skippered by Kevin Clyne, defeated Nhill’s Nicholas Robins, Roger Brown and Greg Ryan, skippered by Darren Gebert.
Division Two also saw another tight encounter, as Horsham Golf prevailed 71-65 over Coughlin Park.
In rink one, skipper Anthony Woodhead’s Coughlin Park team just edged out Darryl Phillips’ team 23-22.
Coughlin Park also won rink two as Stephen Schorback’s side defeated Marty Montgomery’s team 23-21.
Horsham Golf’s rink three team, skippered by Dennis Pye, took a decisive 28-19 win over Zac Stephan’s Coughlin Park team to secure the overall victory.
Horsham Golf will meet Nhill in next Saturday’s grand final.
Horsham Golf will be represented in three grand finals as they defeated Sunnyside 58-49 in Division Three.
Timothy Barber’s rink one Horsham Golf team defeated Roger Weight’s Sunnyside team 18-16.
Sunnyside took out rink two 21-14, as Robert Hetherton skippered his side to the win over Michael John’s team.
Rink three saw Russell Smith’s Horsham Golf side win 26-12 over Coughlin Park’s team, skippered by Colin Gebert.
Horsham Golf will play Nhill in the grand final.
