Horsham Golf enters Christmas undefeated
Several tight matches were played out in round 11 of the Wimmera Lawn Bowls division one pennant competition, with Horsham Golf finishing the calendar year undefeated.

At Horsham Golf Bowls Club, the home side won two out of three rinks to overcome Sunnyside in a hard-fought 66-61 encounter.
Sunnyside’s rink one team of Paul Southcott, Roger MacInnes and Chris Trotter, skippered by Gavin Watson, defeated Horsham Golf’s team of Ross Barnett, Stephen Harris, Geoffrey Bald and skipper Ash Bacthelor, 30-15.
Rink two saw Horsham Golf win 23-17, as the team of Hayden Tucker, Ken McClelland, Danny Schmidt and skipper Bradley Robinson defeated Sunnyside’s Ros Skurrie, Barry McIntyre and Rex Bergen, skippered by Dale McRae.
Horsham Golf’s rink three team swung the match with a 28-14 victory, as the team of Robert Grieger, Heath Miller, and Denis Ballinger, skippered by Gavin Walter, defeated Sunnyside’s team of Lane Hyde, Norma Hair and Stuart Cowan, skippered by John Ackland.
Goroke Edenhope defeated Horsham City 76-66 in their home fixture.
Rink one saw Goroke Edenhope beat Horsham City 32-18, as the team of Richard Smith, Barry Crick and Trevor Mulraney, skippered by Geoff Lowe, defeated Horsham City’s team of Kevin Gepp, John Lehmann and Kevin Smith, skippered by Kevin Clyne.
The home side’s rink two team of Alan O’Bryan, Wayne Caldow and Bruce Ackland, skippered by Philip Robinson, overcame Horsham City’s team of William Hogan, Duncan Bottoms and Graham McDonald, skippered by Ron Dolby, 25-24.
Horsham City took out rink three 24-19, as their team of Colin Morrell, John Burchell and Bruce Campbell, skippered by Anthony King, defeated Goroke Edenhope’s John Moloney, Travis Crawford and Terry Exell, skippered by Hugh Caldow.
Dimboola claimed their seventh consecutive victory as they defeated Nhill 87-65 at home.
The home side’s rink one team of Judith Albrecht, James McRae and Joshua Cook, skippered by Daniel Danisch, defeated Nhill’s team of Nicholas Robins, Roger Brown and Greg Ryan, skippered by Darren Gebert, 27-15.
Rink two saw Dimboola overcome Nhill 40-28, as Darryl Argall, Shannon Williams and Darryl Both, skippered by Peter O’Loughlin, defeated Nhill’s team of Matthew Morrison, Brad Blackwood and Ryder Byrnes, skippered by Kevin Jones.
Nhill took out rink three 22-20, as their team of Ray Olney, Barry Cramer and Ivan Reichelt, skippered by Allan King, defeated Dimboola’s Greg Cook, Wayne Albrecht and Don Connors, skippered by Alan Krahe.
Coughlin Park finished the year with a 74-55 home win over Kaniva, despite the away side winning two out of the three rinks.
The home side’s rink one team had a commanding 35-14 victory, as the team of Terry Sartori, Robert Mewburn and Robin Shaw, skippered by Charles Officer, defeated Kaniva’s Steve Duthie, Timothy Meyer and Adrian Coad, skippered by Christopher La Rocca.
Kaniva’s rink two team of Janet Kuchel, Paul Pearson and Malcolm Coutts, skippered by Jeffrey Meyer, overcame Coughlin Park’s team of Timothy Nihill, Greg Sleep and Allan Thompson, skippered by Michael Ellis, 20-19.
Kaniva’s rink three team also took a one-point win (21-20) as the team of Darren Maddern, Tyler Cooper and Russell Crouch, skippered by Bruce Dodson, defeated Coughlin Park’s Damian Bryan, Peter Beasley and Zac Stephan, skippered by Craig Decker.
The round’s results see Dimboola move ahead of Horsham City into second spot, while Nhill rounds out the top four as the competition takes a break over the Christmas period.
In division two, Horsham Golf suffered its first loss of the season as they were defeated by Dimboola in a tight 69-64 contest. In other division two fixtures, Coughlin Park defeated Goroke Edenhope 95-37, Nhill defeated Natimuk 92-68 and Sunnyside overcame Horsham City 72-56.
In division three, Horsham Golf defeated league leaders Nhill three 79-33, Coughlin Park three defeated Kaniva 71-36, Coughlin Park four overcame Horsham City 58-48, and Sunnyside defeated Nhill four 74-43.
The Wimmera weekend pennant competition will take a break over the Christmas period, and will resume on Saturday, January 17 for round 12.
