Horsham Lawn return to form
Horsham Lawn returned to the winner’s circle in the Central Wimmera Tennis Association pennant competition, defeating Kalkee 10-4 in round seven on Saturday, November 15.
Central Park also claimed points after St Michaels forfeited their clash.
Playing at Kalkee, the home side and Horsham Lawn had an even start in the first four sets of doubles.
For Kalkee, Meaghan Pohlner and Anna Exell comfortably defeated Horsham Lawn’s Ella Thompson and Lydi Boyd 8-1, while Jeff Friberg and Luke Byrne overcame Lachlan Punchard and Graeme Wood in a thrilling 8-7 set.
Horsham Lawn’s Jae McGrath and D’Artagnan Walls defeated Jordan Friberg and Aiden Richardson 8-3, and Tahlia Thompson and Kristy Davidson defeated Emily Polack and Keeley Schultz 8-4.
With the tie even at 2-2, Horsham Lawn then swept the singles matches: Jae McGrath overcame Jordan Friberg 8-7, Lachlan Punchard defeated Jeff Friberg 8-4, Ella Thompson proved too strong for Meaghan Pohlner (8-0), and Tahlia Thompson defeated Emily Polack 8-1, giving Horsham Lawn a 6-2 set lead before the final six doubles matches.
For Kalkee, Anna Exell and Keeley Schultz pulled off an 8-7 win over Lydi Boyd and Kristy Davidson, and Emily Polack and Anna Exell just overcame Tahlia Thompson and Lydi Boyd 8-7.
But Horsham Lawn clinched the win with four more set wins, as D’Artagnan Walls and Graeme Wood defeated Aiden Richardson and Luke Byrne 8-3, Jae McGrath and Graeme Wood were too strong for Jordan Friberg and Luke Byrne (8-2), Ella Thompson and Kristy Davidson defeated Meaghan Pohlner and Keeley Schultz 8-5, and Lachlan Punchard and D’Artagnan Walls defeated Jeff Friberg and Aiden Richardson 8-2.
After seven rounds, Central Park remains undefeated at the top of the ladder, followed by Horsham Lawn and St Michaels, while Kalkee are yet to record a win in fourth place.
Amongst results in other senior grades, Horsham Lawn McGennisken beat Haven Blue by just two games in their A grade clash.
Both sides each won six sets, but the Horsham Lawn team took out 68 games to Haven Blue’s 66, keeping them on top of the A grade ladder.
