Horsham Little Athletics sweep regionals
Horsham Little Athletics sent 21 athletes to the Western Country Region Track and Field Championships in Warrnambool on Saturday, February 15, and Sunday, February 16. Many of the athletes won medals.
The following athletes, coached by Ricky Price, had a tremendous weekend.
Jack Sawyer won gold in the 100m and 200m and broke the WCR record in winning the 400m, finished second in shot put and fourth in long jump.
Asha Meek came home with silver in the 200m, 90m hurdles and 300m hurdles. She claimed bronze in the 100m and fourth in the long jump.
Jett Hill won gold in the 100m, 200 m, and 400m, scoring a personal best. He also finished first in the long jump and third in the shot put.
Indi Finn didn't medal in her usual favourite events, the 100m and 200m, but she placed third in the hurdles and long jump and second in her new favourite event, the high jump. She jumped a personal best of 128cm, which qualifies her for the state championships.
Scarlette Williams won the 800m with a new personal best and was second in the 200m and 400m.
Jaxon Durack won gold in the 60m hurdles, long jump, discus and high jump. He also claimed silver in the 70m.
Luke White won gold in the high jump with 1.49m, was second in the 90 and 200m hurdles and was third in the 100m and 400m.
Their coach, Ricky Price, was ecstatic with the results.
"I was very pleased with how the squad went over the weekend - all seven athletes have a strong chance of going to state," Price said.
"The highlights as I saw it was Scarlette's 800m run, Jett's 400m, Jack's 400m, which was a region record, Indi's high jump, Asha and Luke's long hurdles, considering they haven't had a chance to run them before.
"I have to give a special mention to Jaxon. After clearing 1.25m in the under-10 boys high jump with his scissors technique, the bar was lifted to 1.30m, the Victorian record height. Unfortunately, he wasn't quite able to make it, but hopefully, he will have another crack at the state championships."
"There is much to look forward to in the next few weeks."
