Horsham mayor lauded for fire recovery role
At the Horsham Rural City Council meeting on January 28, Cr Cam McDonald praised Mayor Brian Klowss for supporting the community after the January 9 fires that affected Natumuk, Quantong, and Vectis.
“While you’re seriously impacted by the fires yourself, you have been a strong force in supporting the community, attending meetings, advocating for funding, meeting with the Premier and MP’s and providing support to everyone affected.
“Your response has been nothing short of outstanding,” he said.
“And last night I understand you were helping our former mayor, Cr Ian Ross, move sheep out of the way of the Talungatuk Fires on January 27.
“You are a machine.”
Cr McDonald’s fellow councillors said they joined with him in congratulating Mayor Klowss for his leadership.
Cr Klowss thanked councillors and council staff for their professionalism in Disaster Recovery and said he had received only positive responses from everyone accessing services at the HUB, first at Horsham and then at Natimuk, and from staff in general.
Cr Dean O’Loughlin said it was unfortunate that the council had so much experience with disaster recovery, but that experience helped them be prepared in situations like this.
The two community meetings held after the fires brought several hundred people together in Quantong and Natimuk.
More informal meetings are being planned to keep supporting and connecting with people affected by the fires.
