Horsham Mother's Day was classic
Cool, calm weather helped set the tone for this year’s Horsham Mother’s Day Classic, which drew around 200 participants for a morning filled with warmth, purpose and community spirit.

Committee member and one of the organisers, Jackie Exell said the event was “absolutely wonderful,” with locals and visitors from across the Wimmera region walking or running in honour of loved ones affected by breast and ovarian cancer in Sawyer Park on May 11.
“There was a real sense of connection and purpose, with so many walking or running in honour of someone they love,” Ms Exell said.
A major addition this year was support from Wes Davidson Real Estate, which joined as a key sponsor.
The business embraced the cause by wearing pink every day in May, using pink ‘SOLD’ stickers, and donating for each house sold during the month.
“Their creative approach to fundraising and visibility added something really special to this year’s event,” Ms Exell said.
She said the committee has received positive feedback from the attendees.
“People were grateful for the chance to be part of something meaningful on Mother’s Day, and many shared personal stories and reasons for taking part,” she said.
“We also received some fantastic feedback, both big and small ideas to help us continue growing and improving the event in future years, which we truly value.”
She added that fundraising is still open until the end of June, but early donations have already impressed the committee.
“We’ve already seen some incredible individual and team fundraising efforts, and we’re excited to see where we land,” she said.
“Every dollar goes toward life-saving breast and ovarian cancer research, and the generosity of the community has been truly inspiring.”
Volunteers, sponsors and last-minute helpers also received thanks, as organisers reflected on the strength of community backing behind the event.
“The Mother’s Day Classic is more than a fun run or walk, it’s about coming together to support the women in our lives, raise awareness, and fund critical breast and ovarian cancer research,” she said.
“Every step taken and every dollar raised brings us closer to better treatments, earlier detection, and ultimately, a cure.”
