Horsham SES celebrated Orange Day
Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) Horsham Unit celebrated 50 years and National Volunteer Week on Wednesday, May 21, with a special morning tea and a sea of orange worn to honour their volunteers.

VICSES traces its roots back to 1950, when it was formed as a volunteer-based Civil Defence Organisation ready to respond in times of war.
In 1975, it was officially renamed VICSES to align with other Australian states.
VICSES operations officer and local volunteer Jordan Bush said the event was a meaningful way to thank the people behind the scenes.
“I know I speak on behalf of all staff when I say we’re incredibly proud to work for the organisation we do,” he said. “Our volunteers are often undervalued, and we’re proud that on our day every year, it’s a chance to say thank you not only from us but from the community and other agencies as well.”
Around 25 people attended the celebration at the Horsham unit, including local member of Lowan Emma Kealy and CFA and Ambulance Victoria members.
“This morning’s tea went incredibly well,” Mr Bush said.
“We had representatives from most agencies attend to thank the volunteers.
“We all had a great time — great breakfast and a good event.”
Bunnings Horsham organised and catered the event, donated a barbecue, and volunteered their time to help run it.
“We’re very grateful to them,” Mr Bush said.
As part of National Volunteer Week, Mr Bush encouraged community members to wear orange to support SES and its volunteers.
