Hot aussie Christmas hits Warracknabeal

Last Sunday turned into a scorcher of a day for Warracknabeal Action Group's (WAG) Christmas Festival with the committee adding in some last minute fun to keep everyone cool.

WAG's events committee president Kathryn Wilken-Jackson said the festival was "absolutely amazing" considering the heat.

"It was a great community event and had a great atmosphere," she said.

"We had less numbers than last year but we were still overwhelmed with the people that came in the heat."

A splash zone with sprinklers and blow-up water features was organised for children to enjoy alongside extra evaporative coolers around the venue.

"We adapted the best we could," Ms Wilken-Jackson said.

The wide variety of children's activities that were available with the new Warrack Wonderland activity centre kept busy throughout the evening.

"That was really well received and with some refining we will be doing it again next year," she said.

A special visit from both Santa and Mrs Claus proved to be once again the highlight of the evening with the pair handing out bags of lollies to everyone.

Carols got many on their feet as they danced the evening away to each performance.

Pastor John from Warracknabeal Lutheran Church delivered the Christmas message before the formal singing and dancing began.

Wheatland District Church performed Born in Bethlehem and Silent Night/Emmanuel and the Warracknabeal Community Choir sang When You Believe.

Sharon and Andrea led the kids section where five songs for all to groove to were performed.

Warracknabeal and District Band once again played their instruments for the performers.

Ms Wilken-Jackson said they were really happy with how it all turned out.

"We're really appreciative to all those who came," she said.

"A big thank you to the Warracknabeal community and also our volunteers, a lot of planning goes into an event this size and many donated their time to make it happen."

She also added a thank you to the Warracknabeal Racing Club for allowing the event to be held at their facility.

"It's an amazing facility and we're very lucky to have access to it," Ms Wilken-Jackson said.

WAG wants to wish the whole Warracknabeal community a merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous 2025.
