Hufflepuff, Tarzan win thrillers

The Horsham Badminton Association winter teams competition continued on Monday August 10 at Horsham College Gymnasium as close matches were played in both grades.

A grade

Gryffindor versus Hufflepuff:

In a very close contest, a win in the final singles match was required to help get Hufflepuff over the line.

Ellen Jalil was a standout for the winning side, not dropping a game as she won all her three doubles matches.

Similarly, Paul Patterson won all three of his doubles matches for Gryffindor.

Harshdeep Singh ensured Hufflepuff claimed the win, defeating Josh Dunn 21-15 21-18 in the singles match.

RESULT: Hufflepuff d Gryffindor 6 sets to 4, 13 games to 8, 409 points to 365.

Ravenclaw versus Hogwarts:

Ravenclaw convincingly returned to the winner's table, but the clash was highlighted by extended sets.

Ben Sawyer and Sue Goudie were the pick of the Ravenclaw players, each winnin their three doubles matches, with Sawyer also taking out the singles match 21-15 21-12 over Ishan Thomas.

The most enthralling clash came in one of the doubles, where Ben Sawyer and partner Joel Beggs defeated Ishan Thomas and Brendan Nitschke 30-28 18-21 21-19.

RESULT: Ravenclaw d Hogwarts 7 sets to 3, 15 games to 10, with both teams equal on 455 points.

B grade

Rapunzel versus Tarzan:

In a very close contest all the way through, it was Tarzan who just prevailed.

Substituting for Sam Nurse, Belinda was pivotal for Tarzan, winning all three of their doubles matches.

While going into the singles match with the lead, Harry Foster secured the win for his team with a 16-14 15-9 victory over Helen Francisco.

RESULT: Tarzan d Rapunzel 6 sets to 4, 14 games to 10, 332 points to 305.

Moana versus Aladdin:

Aladdin proved too strong in the other B grade clash, winning the majority of sets.

Belinda Amess and Deni Dominic starred for the winning side, winning all three of their doubles sets, while Aden Merrett emerged victorious in the singles clash, defeating Whitney O'Sullivan 15-7 15-13.

RESULT: Aladdin d Moana 8 sets to 2, 16 games to 7, 320 points to 267.
