In good faith
IN GOOD FAITH: John 14:18-21 - A casual glance around will reveal what appears to be a great deal of evidence for the non-existence of God: warfare, strife, sickness, grief and more.

But to say God does not exist because evil exists, raises more questions than it answers. What hope is there in life if we are all nothing more than products of chance? Being accidents of evolution is itself a source of hopelessness!
Also, if God does not exist, then we’re ultimately accountable only to ourselves for our actions. If the self is the ultimate authority on what is right and wrong and good and bad, then we become a whole host of little gods, each of our own. That’s no way for a people, a society, a race to live!
You see, the problems we face shouldn’t be a sign for us that God does not exist. Rather, they should be signs that point us to our need for a God who is greater than the world, a God who is able to do something about it.
That’s precisely who God is. He doesn’t leave us to destroy ourselves with unfettered freedom, but nor does He leave us in the depths of despair and sadness in the midst of a world full of evil. God has dealt with the problem of sin and evil by taking it upon Himself in Jesus Christ.
Good Friday isn’t just a public holiday. Easter Sunday isn’t just an excuse to eat Easter eggs (as if one needed an excuse!). They are the times when God personally and onto Himself the full devastation of the pain and sadness we all feel. Jesus took it all on Himself so that we would not have to bear that burden into eternity. He died to redeem us from the world full of evil and sadness.
And we claim God doesn’t exist because evil does! No – God exists, and He is the only one who is able to deal with the problem of evil. Even death itself is under His feet!
We may not be able to see Jesus as we can see each other. But we do know God for who He is, because the Holy Spirit reveals Him to us.
This is what makes all the difference. The world carries on about evidence and proof, but none will be forthcoming – not in the sense of cold, hard evidence that everyone will accept. Why? Because God our heavenly Father has already given us, as Christians, all the proof we need: the Holy Spirit, who leads us to the truth of God.
This is how, when we look around and see only the evil and suffering of the world, that we can be sure that God is a loving God. The cross of Christ is where we see that God went to incomprehensible lengths to destroy evil and free us from our own sin and death.
