Inconvenient truth
Inconveniently, I’m currently halfway through a book called ‘Live No Lies’ and I’m up to the bit where the author explains how we in the west, are literally killing ourselves with our pleasure-seeking behaviours.

In the modern name of freedom, we desire, use, repeat - consuming all that we want – ‘as long as we don’t hurt anyone’.
Sadly, our scrolling/shopping/scoffing behaviour often leads to addiction, which is a life lived very much apart from freedom, and it always hurts those who live with and around us – because it hurts us.
It’s inconvenient that I’m reading this brilliant book right now, because I cannot hide the amount of chocolate I am hoarding – formed in the shapes of eggs and rabbits – with the excuse of celebrating Easter.
Our remembrance of Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday is the honouring of a sacrifice made to free us all from the fear of death – that’s a big old-fashioned fear and a big old-fashioned freedom.
Someone being publicly tortured and killed, who is up and about cooking a barbecue on the beach for his mates three days later is newsworthy in any day and age – which is why history is counted from that event, and we are still marking the occasion today.
Creating a very different kind of freedom from the modern take on the word, the freedom Jesus of Nazareth introduced was a release from the tethers of this world, our deceptive ideas, disordered desires and questionable culture - a revelation of reality beyond only what we can see.
Life in this physical world is temporary, but eternity starts now with the choices we make about what we believe, focus on, say and do.
What do we trust in?
Our behaviour impacts those around us too, so when I waste money on overeating, I have less to share with those in need.
Australia’s upcoming election is another battle to ‘live with no lies’ as the truth can be difficult to discern.
Each individual’s algorithms deliver a tailored newsfeed, but are we even aware of the truth and the impact of our choices?
Which lies are we lapping up?
agendas that are rarely spoken of.
People with faith-based convictions continue to come under attack because they hold human life to be designed, unique and precious.
on our journey.
As a follower of Biblical truth, my purpose is to build people us, not destroy them.
First though, I have to ensure I don’t destroy myself through my gluttony, and only as I embrace the true freedom of spirit led self-discipline will that be possible in this season of all things chocolate!
40 hours and it revealed my areas of bondage! Happy Easter fellow travellers.
