Jeparit Hall celebrates 100 years
The Jeparit community marked a major milestone on Tuesday, May 27, as the Jeparit Soldiers’ and Citizens’ Memorial Hall celebrated its 100 years.

Originally opened on May 27, 1925, the hall has stood as a central hub for the town’s civic, social, and historical life.
Planning for the hall began in 1922, with construction commencing in 1924.
The vision for the building was considered unusual at the time, aiming to serve as a recreational space for returned soldiers, a venue for local events, and the administrative headquarters for the then Shire of Dimboola.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary, Hindmarsh Shire Council, with the support of several local organisations, will host a community celebration on Friday, 6 June, from 5pm to 7pm at the Jeparit Memorial Hall, located at 10-12 Roy Street.
The evening will feature a historical presentation by local historian Craige Proctor, along with reflections from guest speakers, including Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor Ron Ismay.
Mr Proctor’s presentation will provide a brief overview of the hall’s origins.
“My presentation will consist of a short overview about the origins of the Jeparit Hall, as it was a memorial of the WWI soldiers, a council chamber and a civic hall for the public,” he said.
“It replaced the original mechanics institute, which many towns had.
“It combined a library, which was a social meeting venue for returning soldiers.
“I think it’s important for people to know about the history of the hall.”
Cr Ismay also brings a unique perspective, having previously served as a Councillor and President for the former Shire of Dimboola.
The Jeparit Historical Society will open its doors for the occasion, and visitors will also have the opportunity to tour the adjoining former Council Chambers.
Cr Ismay encouraged locals to join the celebration.
