Jonty Polack, 11, who has just completed Year 5 at Horsham Holy Trinity Lutheran College, wrote to council asking that it consider enlarging the Sanderson Street Dog Park near the Stawell Road bridge and adding lighting.

"As a frequent visitor to the park I have noticed that it is a cherished space for many local dog owners and their pets," Jonty said.

"However, I believe there are a few enhancements that could significantly improve the experience for all users."

Jonty cited two areas of particular concern.

"It is apparent that there is additional space around the current boundaries of the park that could be used," he said.

"Expanding the park would provide more room for dogs to run and play, and maybe bring more visitors comfortably and enhance the overall experience.

"Given the growing number of dog owners in the area, this expansion would greatly benefit the community and dogs.

"Another improvement that would greatly enhance the park's usability is the installation of lighting.

"Currently, the park becomes inaccessible after dark due to inadequate lighting.

"By adding lights, the park could be enjoyed during the evening hours, providing a safer environment for both dogs and their owners.

"Proper lighting would also increase security and help in maintaining the park's cleanliness."

Jonty's mother Kate Polack said her son loved his dog Soda and exercised him at the dog park most evenings.

She said he also enjoyed the other dogs and speaking to their owners.

"I believe these improvements would make Sanderson Street Dog Park an even more valuable asset to our community," Jonty said in his approach to council.

The sole input into the letter by his parents, who live in Mardon Drive near the park, was to post it.
