Journeys to Hindmarsh shared
'Everyone Belongs' will be the mantra as Hindmarsh Shire celebrates Harmony Day again this year.
The shire is gearing up to host a public event on the evening of Thursday March 20, starting at 6pm.
The celebration will take place in Nhill Memorial Community Centre, where the program will feature guest speakers sharing stories of their journeys to Hindmarsh Shire.
The event will showcase an array of cultures, arts, dances and music and will conclude with light refreshments.
Harmony Day is celebrated annually in March with the 'Everyone Belongs' message.
"On Harmony Day we recognise and celebrate our diversity and the cultures that enrich our community and make it an amazing place to live," Hindmarsh Shire CEO Monica Revell said.
"Harmony Day is also an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the value of community participation, diversity, inclusiveness, respect and belonging."
Mrs Revell said the shire would also observe Cultural Diversity Week from next Monday, March 17, until Sunday March 23.
"Council will be releasing a series of videos of people from the Hindmarsh community talking about their journey to Hindmarsh and their vision for the future within the community," she said.
"These videos will be available for viewing on the Hindmarsh Shire Council Facebook page."
Hindmarsh Shire Council mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said: “On Harmony Day, we celebrate the strength that comes from unity and diversity in our rural communities.
"In our close-knit towns, everyone plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where all are valued, and on this day we reaffirm our commitment to fostering harmony for everyone, no matter where they come from."
