Junior squash talent on show in Horsham
Horsham Squash Club welcomed the best young squash talent from Victoria and South Australia as it hosted both the Battle of the Border Competition and the Horsham Junior Silver Tournament on March 7-8.
Representing Victoria in the Battle of the Border against South Australia was Horsham Squash Club’s Oliver Doti.
With 21 rubbers played, Victoria reclaimed the title in a 16-5 win after South Australia won the 2025 event.
On Saturday night and Sunday, the players backed up to participate in the Horsham Junior Silver Tournament.
Competing in the boys under-19 competition, Doti suffered hard-fought losses in the opening round and playoffs.
Manaia Kara-Brown won the final 11-8, 11-5, 11-8 over runner-up Bryce Correa.
In the under-19 girls, Amelia Brigden didn’t drop a game in the competition to win, while Maddie Rolls was runner-up.
In the under-17 boys, Ketan Porwal won the final 11-1, 11-4, 12-10 over runner-up Elijah Rolls.
Jackson Martin won the under-15 boys competition, defeating Aleister Loo 11-8, 11-5, 11-8 in the grand final.
In the under-13 boys, Freddie Goldsmith won all four of his matches to claim the title, defeating runner-up Adam Kamal in a thrilling five-game encounter.
Millie Goldsmith took the honours in the under-13 girls, securing the win with a 3-2 game victory over runner-up Kayla Goonewardena.
