Juniors star in grand finals

The Central Wimmera Tennis Association junior grand finals were held on Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21, with various clubs claiming premierships across the numerous grades.

It was a Central Park affair in the junior open division as Central Park White took on Central Park Blue.

The teams alternated at winning rubbers before Harry Allan delivered a crucial 6-4 singles victory over Eli Bailey late in the tie.

The two teams won three sets each, but it was the Central Park White team of Harry Allan, Sienna Nitschke and Archer Reading who prevailed over the Blue team of Eli Bailey, Mia Rees, Archie Wardlaw and Jack Reading, winning 31-28.

In section 1 boys, Horsham Lawn Gold proved too strong for Haven as the Lawn team of Nixon Beattie, Ethan Maher, Lachlan Engert and Noah Myerscrough won 6-0 (36-11).

In section 2, boys, Horsham Lawn Gold’s team of William Wood, Archie Stockdale, Oliver McDonald and Hamish Mintern and Horsham Lawn Green’s Ben Wood, Tristan Van Zyl and Lachlan Holmes played out a thrilling draw (3-3, 26-26), forcing a super tiebreak, where Green prevailed over Gold 10-6.

In section 3 boys, the Horsham Lawn Green team of Louie Chamberlain, Felix Macumber, Oscar Frew and Jackson Hams just overcame Horsham Lawn Gold 3-3 (28-27).

In section 1 girls, Horsham Lawn Gold defeated Horsham Lawn White 4-2 (31-31), with Mia Ladlow, Imogen Stockdale and Eliza Brown in the premiership team.

In section 2, girls, Natimuk Blue defeated Horsham Lawn Red 4-2 (30-20), with the winning team consisting of Tayla Streeter, Jemma Hoffman and Zarnie Sudholz.

Haven defeated Horsham Lawn 4-2 (24-13) in the section 4 girls' grand final, with the premiership Haven team including Torah Perry, Lucy Mathews, Amy Mathews and Alexis Lenehan.  

In the match play section 5, Central Park White defeated Homer's Red 2-2 (19-15), with Thevlini Sumanapala, Isabel McConnell, Quinn McKenzie, Holly Di Pietro and Ella Kirkwood comprising the successful Central Park grand final team.

In match play 6, Horsham Lawn Gold defeated Horsham Lawn Green 4-2 (57-48), with Ace Carr, Xavier Hams, Isabella Hamilton and Oscar Mason as the premiership team.
