Kalkee to embrace Pimpinio challenge
Kalkee will be looking to pull off an upset when they host the in-form Pimpinio in men’s senior football this Saturday in round 15 of the Horsham District Football Netball League.
The Kees were in good form before their round 12 bye, winning four straight games, but have suffered defeats to Laharum and Harrow Balmoral in recent weeks.
Those results have left them with a 4-8 record and they are no longer in the running for a finals spot.
Conversely, Pimpinio are on a five-game win streak, with their most impressive performance coming last week in a 89-55 victory over Laharum.
Holding a 10-3 record, a win over Kalkee on Saturday would almost lock up a top three spot for the Tigers.
But in the previous matchup between the sides in round four, Kalkee led through the first three quarters before Pimpinio scrapped by for a 77-73 victory.
Andy Devereaux, coach of Kalkee, says the team can deliver a surprise win, hoping to finish the season on a high.
“The Pimpinio game earlier in the year, that was a four-point game, so it’s a game we have identified where we can continue to show what we can do and hopefully get the four points,” Devereaux said.
“These last round of games for us, we’re up against the quality of the competition so it will let us know where we’re at.
“We’re looking at where we need to improve on for this next little period and what type of game style we want for 2026 so we can be competitive and continue to move up the ladder.”
