Kaniva ready for Taylors Lake rematch
An improved Kaniva Leeor outfit will be out for redemption in men’s senior football this Saturday when they take on Taylors Lake in round 15 of the Horsham District Football Netball League.
The Lakers won their round four matchup 77-63 in a tight encounter at Kaniva but both sides have had different seasons from that point.
The Cougars have been one of the form teams of the competition since their surprise win over Pimpinio in round eight, dropping just one game since.
Kaniva Leeor’s recent form, which includes four straight wins, has elevated them to fifth on the ladder, and a win on Saturday takes them one step closer to securing a finals spot.
Taylors Lake have had a mixed season since round four, posting a win, a draw and some competitive losses.
With the home-ground advantage and knowledge of their previous victory over the Cougars, the Lakers enter Saturday’s game with a chance of an upset.
Jonno Hicks, coach of Kaniva Leeor, heads into Saturday knowing his team has to put the best foot forward as they aim to finish the season strongly.
“We've got three more games to try to finish the year off the way we want to,” Hicks said.
“We’ve got some big challenges – Taylors Lake beat us and we just got over the line against Kalkee.”
Hicks said making the top five would be a good outcome for the side to achieve but was not the primary focus.
“Our message doesn't really change from week to week – it's been trying to get the best out of our game,” Hicks said.
“Obviously it would be fantastic to finish the year in the five but this is still a really young group just trying to learn and we'll have our ups and downs along the way.
“We’re trying to play more consistent football and hopefully get us towards playing our best football.”
