Knight’s six wickets lead Tigers to victory

The third round of the Horsham Cricket Association’s B grade competition was highlighted by Tigers youngster Archie Knight's six-wicket performance against St Mary’s, which included a hat-trick.

Among other results, the Bullants, the Colts, Swifts-Great Western and the Horsham Saints all picked up victories, along with the Tigers. 

Playing on Sunday at Dimboola Road Oval, St Mary’s elected to bat against the Tigers and were in early trouble.

At 3/16 in the eighth over, Archie Knight bowled Travis Harris, then Riley Adams, before trapping Cooper Preston leg before wicket to complete the hat-trick. 

Another wicket in his next over had St Mary’s at 7/16 before Matt Hartnett (23) helped the side to 66 all out off 28 overs. 

Knight finished with figures of 6/12, while fellow opening bowler Ricci Marks had 2/13. 

In response, Scott Marks (23 not out) and Chris Eagle (23) helped the side reach 3/68 to win by seven wickets, with St Mary’s Jed Hartnett finishing with 2/2.

All the other fixtures were played on Saturday, including the Bullants hosting Brim Kellalac Sheep Hills at Noradjuha Reserve. 

The Eagles elected to bat and finished with 8/80 from their 40 overs, led by 34 runs from Royce Bennett. 

Angus Slatter led the Bullants' bowling effort with figures of 3/20, well supported by Anthony Cutter (2/14) and Mason Hair (2/21).

The Bullants' opening batting pair of Kent Hair (42 not out) and Dallas Hobbs (35 not out) had little trouble chasing down the target as their side won by ten wickets.

At Dudley Cornell Park, a five-wicket performance from Alex Baker helped the home side win by 57 runs over West Wimmera. 

Electing to bat first, the Colts were bowled out for 139, with contributions from Nathan Keel (25), Steven Harrison (17) and Justin Beugelaar (17).

Frazer Wheaton led the Warriors’ bowling performance with 3/16 off his eight overs.

In response, Jordan Gurry (13) was the only Warriors player to hit double figures as the visitors managed just 52 runs. 

Baker was instrumental with the ball as he finished with 5/17 off his eight overs, while Ross Frew had figures of 3/14.

At Donald, Swifts-Great Western defeated Donald Jeffcott by 82 runs.

Electing to bat, the visitors finished with 5/203 from their 40 overs, led by 79 from Rick Oliver, while Stewart MacPherson chimed in with 42. 

Niluka Nanayakkara (2/27) and Chase Campbell (2/29) were the pick of the Donald Jeffcott bowlers.

Despite various starts from multiple players, Donald Jeffcott were bowled out for 121, with Colby Anderson leading the side with 40 runs. 

Doing most of the damage with the ball for Swifts-Great Western were Ryder Sullivan and Jack Harney, who finished with figures of 4/26 and 3/24, respectively. 

The Horsham Saints continued their unbeaten start to the season as they defeated the Rup-Minyip Panthers by nine wickets. 

Playing away, the Panthers elected to bat and managed just 74 before the Saints bowled them out in the 36th over. 

A crucial 22 not out from number 11 Scott McCurdy helped the side after they were 9/49 when he entered the crease. 

Pradesh Venu Kudililparambil and Zach Hamerston led yet another strong Saints bowling performance with figures of 4/14 and 4/16, respectively. 

The Saints' opening pair of Corey Smith (41 not out) and Sarmad Saif (33) scored the bulk of the runs as they reached 1/78 in the 19th over.

Scott McCurdy (1/9) took the solitary wicket for the Panthers.
