Not Just a Lake to Me
I just wanted to write a short letter to describe what the development of Rainbow Lake has done, and continues to do, for me. I would also like to encourage others to take advantage of this lovely community asset.
I have always been envious of those people who have a body of water just a stone’s throw away from where they live. I don’t know what it is but any time I am near water it’s like I get a bit of pep in my step and the world seems a more pleasant place to be. Whether it’s the ocean or a small lake like what we have, it all seems to have the same effect on how I feel when I am around it.
The Rainbow Lake has a long way to go before it is fully developed into what people have envisioned for it, but even at this early stage it is having a big, positive effect on me and my mental health and wellbeing. I believe it could do the same for many others as well.
Whether it’s sitting in the car overlooking the lake doing a wordsearch with the sun shining through the window on a winter’s day, or sitting by the waters edge listening to the birds chirping, or imagining myself catching “Rainbow’s biggest fish” with my family in the near future.
I have spent many hours out there already and I believe it has had a really positive effect on me, just to come and have a place to sit and relax, dream and ponder.
I strongly recommend that if life is getting a bit hectic and stressing you out, try sitting out at the lake for a while and you might be surprised how much better you feel afterwards.
Oh, and it won’t cost you a thing, so go on out there and give it a go!
Phil McIntosh.
