Lexie's setting her stall

What started out as a school project for assessment has grown into a potential small business for 13-year-old Lexie Hallam from Horsham, who has launched Clay Collective.

Lexie sells her handmade clay earrings and beaded bracelets alongside claw clips and soft headbands that she buys in and has received minimal help from anyone.

"I tested it out and did well so I've just stuck with it," Lexie said.

Since December last year Lexie has been present at market events where family friends have shown their support.

She has been a part of the Hopetoun and Beulah markets and was the youngest stallholder in Rainbow during the Big Sky Festival.

"It's going pretty well - better than expected," she said.

She said the process to make her clay earrings wasn't very complicated.

"You just make them and then put them in the oven to bake," she said.

"Some take me 10 minutes and others take about 15 minutes or longer," Lexie said.

Right now, her products are primarily for markets and for lucky family and friends, but she said she was looking forward to seeing where the business took her.

"I'll just be looking for more opportunity and more markets to be at," Lexie said.
