The time capsule is located at Lions Park on Barnes Boulevarde, Horsham, and is ready to be re-opened.

The capsule was last opened in January 2000 by then mayor, Cr Bernie Dunn, in front of a crowd of over 400 people and the contents of over 300 letters were distributed.

It was then resealed in 2001 by the then mayor, Cr Bernard Gross.

“As a project of our former Leo Club in 1976, the capsule was to raise funds for the Wimmera River improvement work. It was made from a former naval mine, and designed by Peter Creek as a replica of the world in a globe," Lions President Jeff Both said.

"Built by T J Pohlner Engineering and weighing 1.5 tonnes it was filled with over 300 letters in 1977 by the then mayor, Cr Brian Brooke and included a letter from him. We are asking the Horsham community to once again contribute to filling the capsule with letters.

“When we open the capsule, we will distribute the contents to the authors of the letters or their owners or family members and the public is once again invited to write letters to future family members for re-sealing into the Capsule currently planned for February 28 2025."
