Locals honour Peter Hallam
The Hopetoun community once again showed the power of coming together, with around 180 people attending the Peter Hallam Fun Run & Golf Day on Sunday, June 28.

They all got together to celebrate friendship and community, and to raise vital funds for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
By the end of the day, about $10,000 had been raised thanks to the incredible generosity of the Hopetoun community and the wider district.
The event offered something for everyone.
Around 30 people braved the cold, dewy conditions early in the morning for the Fun Run and Walk, making their way around the picturesque 18-hole golf course, many finishing with very wet feet.
Hopetoun Golf Club president Tim Ferguson said the morning conditions certainly didn't dampen spirits.
"It was a fresh start with plenty of dew, but everyone had a smile on their face. It was a great way to kick off a fantastic day," he said.
Golfers also turned out in force, with 70 players travelling from across the district to compete in Pinehurst and Stableford events.
Throughout the day, families and friends enjoyed outdoor games, caught up over lunch and generously donated to the cause.
Laughter echoed from every corner of the golf course, from the clubhouse right through to the back nine, creating exactly the atmosphere organisers had hoped for.
"That was what this event was all about, raising money and bringing people together," Mr Ferguson said.
Visitors also praised the presentation of the Hopetoun Golf Course.
"So many people commented on how amazing the course looked,” he said.
“Our volunteers have put in a huge amount of work, and it was wonderful to hear so many positive comments."
The event was held in memory of Peter Hallam, whose love of golf, community and bringing people together continues to inspire those who knew him.
Peter's wife, Barb Hallam, said the day perfectly combined celebrating Peter's life with raising funds for a cause that affects thousands of Australian families.
"The day worked because it celebrated Peter but also incorporated fundraising for brain cancer," she said.
"There were even a few Melbourne Football Club theme songs sung before the night was out.
"The rolling all-day barbecue kept everyone fed and meant you could stay from start to finish, which many people did."
Hopetoun Golf Club President Tim Ferguson said he was overwhelmed by the community's support.
"I'm blown away with the support, and both people calling in to catch up with friends and those who simply came to make a donation made the day incredibly special," he said.
"I want to thank the Hallam family, especially Barb, for allowing us to join the fundraising event with the celebration of Peter's love of golf."
According to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, around 2100 Australians are diagnosed with brain cancer each year, and approximately 1600 people lose their lives to the disease annually.
Funds raised through events such as the Peter Hallam Fun Run & Golf Day help support vital research to improve survival rates and develop better treatments.
With a wonderful community atmosphere, strong support from across the district and an outstanding fundraising result, the day was a fitting tribute to Peter Hallam and a reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together for a worthy cause.
