Locals light up eight-ball competition

Stawell won division three of the Victorian Country Cup Eight Ball Carnival at Horsham Lanes and Games on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23. Other local teams also performed well.

Stawell was too good in their division, defeating Surf Coast in a thriller 7-6. The team of Jake Brazendale, George Milojevic, Zach Blachford, Ben Tolnai, Chris Jolly Jr., Scott Blachford, and Matty V went undefeated throughout the tournament.

In their division was Dimboola, who lost in the semi-final, 0-7 to Surf Coast. The team of Dean Campbell, Alan Hadzig, Eric Thursfield, Gary Miller, Paul Speake, Robbie Taylor and Peter Sevenich won five of their eight pool matches.

Horsham, featuring Brad McDonald, Hannu Oksala, Phillip Barnard, Rodney Zerbst, Gary Chester, Randell Lee and Roger Kotz, finished sixth with four wins and four losses.

In division two, Ararat finished second with five wins and three losses, falling in the semi-final to Bendigo Dragonz, 4-7. The team featured Chris Pascall, Glen Cooney, Jason Lewis, Jason Heard, Bray McDonald, Tony Nolan, Daniel Clark and Steve Moorfoot.

Also in division two was the Horsham team of Leigh Hinch, Craig Barnett, Tim Hofmaier, Warren Young, Anthony Hill, Jayden Hinch and Michael Bates. They finished sixth with five wins and three losses. Their best win was a 4-3 win over Ararat in the first match.

St Arnaud, in division five, lost a thrilling semi-final 6-7 to the Geelong Wanderers. Leigh Watkins, Ned Gorrie, Harley Durward, Mitch Phillips, Will Jackson, Des Moulday, Dave Russ, Geoff Watts and Bob Wooley finished second with six wins and two losses.

EIGHT BALL ROYALTY HITS HORSHAM

Eight-ball royalty was at the Victorian Country Cup Carnival held at Horsham Lanes and Games on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23.

Mark Curwood was part of the Masters Team that won the World Championships in 2024 and was runner-up in the doubles. 

Toby Clack is the current under-23 National Champion in teams and singles and the former under-18 singles world champion in 2023. 

Paul Clack and Rhys Godden are current National Champions of the Victorian Team in the open category.
