Major kitchen redevelopment for Nhill Hospital
After decades of wear and tear since its original construction in 1950, with a minor upgrade in 1978, Nhill Hospital's kitchen is destined for major redevelopment.

The kitchen has long struggled with structural deterioration, outdated and unreliable equipment, and a layout that no longer supports safe and efficient food handling.
Grant support and local advocacy have now allowed the long-overdue transformation to proceed.
The project will deliver a purpose-built, modern kitchen designed to meet today’s best-practice standards in safety, sustainability and functionality.
Construction is scheduled for completion by December 5 with minimal disruption to essential services during the renovation.
Manager of hospitality and environmental services Joelle Browne said the upgrade marked a turning point for the facility.
“It’s about more than replacing old appliances – it’s about creating a safe, healthy space for our staff and ensuring our continuing commitment to quality service for our community," Ms Browne said.
Hospitality and general services staff recently gathered one last time in the old kitchen to say their farewells in a quiet moment of reflection in a space that has supported decades of service, stories and shared meals.
A West Wimmera Health Service spokesperson said the project marked the organisation's strong commitment to maintaining high standards in community infrastructure.
Updates will be provided as the project progresses.
