MAN IN THE CORNER

The Man in the Corner heard some positive news come out of all of the rain and wind in NSW and Queensland.

Horsham's Betty Howden turned 90 on Sunday and was looking forward to seeing all of her family and friends across the weekend.

Unfortunately, ex-tropical cyclone Alfred had other plans, and grounded most flights coming out of the sunshine state.

Former local Bruce Howden, who now lives in Eumundi, a stones throw from Noosa, wouldn't let some wind gusts ruin his mum's birthday.

He jumped in the car and covered the 1800-plus kilometer journey with enough time to appear at the birthday celebrations on Saturday.

Betty's 80-year-old brother also made the journey from Brisbane, making for a memorable weekend for the whole family.
