Fresh out of the academy after graduating only a month ago, Const Richards made the move from Geelong to Horsham, where he resides, to look after the wider Warracknabeal community.

"I was after a change," he said.

"And I wanted to get experience in the country."

When asked why he chose a career in the police force, Const Richards said, "It's something I've always wanted to do.

"I think it will be a very challenging but rewarding job.

"I'm always up for a challenge and I like to get out and get my hands dirty."

Sergeant Kylie Newell took Const Richards on a tour of the town on his first shift, introducing him to the community.

Const Richards said he would be stationed in Warracknabeal for a minimum of two years.

"It has a good community feel here," he said.

"We'll see how things go."
