Marno's Merino field day showcases state's best
Victoria’s leading Merino and Poll Merino studs will be on display at the Victorian State Merino Field Day at the Marnoo Recreation Reserve on Wednesday, August 19.
Victoria’s leading Merino and Poll Merino studs will be on display at the Victorian State Merino Field Day at the Marnoo Recreation Reserve on Wednesday, August 19.
The single-day event will feature a range of local agricultural products and services, as well as regional hospitality.
“(The Victorian State Merino Field Day is the) perfect opportunity to take one day away from the business, come and have a look at the best genetics that are on offer from the leading Victorian Merino studs and Poll Merino studs,” president Trent Carter said.
Guest speakers Craig Wilson and Jason Tompf will share insights into the Merino lifetime productivity trial and the profitability of ewe-lamb joining outcomes.
“The sheep industry at the moment is an absolutely really exciting sector, and some great gains can be made,” Mr Carter said.
“Everything is aligning to really capitalise on a Merino livestock enterprise at the moment.
“It's probably the year to really ramp things up and ensure that you’ve got your business breeding direction set, you’re happy with where you’re at, and really ensure that you’re getting as many lambs on the ground and really try and breed and increase ewe numbers because there's going to be some huge financial gains to be made.”
The Victorian champion rams and teams will be judged at 3.30 pm, with food and refreshments available, and the bar will open from midday.
The Victorian State Merino Field Day is on Wednesday, August 19, from 10 am til 4 pm at the Marnoo Recreation Reserve.
