Minyip Murtoa beat Horsham to first win
Minyip Murtoa’s senior women’s side recorded their first win over Horsham on Sunday in round three of the inaugural season of women’s football in the Wimmera Football Netball League.

The Burras dominated from the outset, leading 17-2 at the first break and then 38-8 at half-time, before finishing with a 9.10 (64) to 2.2 (14) win.
In an all-around team performance for the victors, Mikaela Turvey and Macy Fuller were the best players for Minyip Murtoa, while Kim Parker and Bethany Bates were the best players for the losing team.
Prior to the game, Madeleine Huggins, coach of the Burras, mentioned how the side was looking to try new approaches with the team’s ball movement, which came to fruition in the form of accurate kicking and handballing.
Minyip Murtoa’s assistant coach Nick Cushing was pleased with the team’s effort.
“It’s good to get the first win for the season,” Cushing said.
“The main focus today was to give all our players a good opportunity and see some improvement from our first game.”
Softening the blow of Horsham’s second straight loss was the spirited performance the team gave while being down multiple players.
Brad Treloar, coach of Horsham, was proud of the team’s effort amidst the adversity.
“We had 10 players out with a mixture of injury and unavailability but the girls competed all game – it was fantastic,” Treloar said.
“Even with players missing, I thought we performed better than our first game.”
The result sees Minyip Murtoa maintain second behind Laharum in the ladder, while Horsham are currently third.
