Natimuk United upset Noradjuha Quantong, Kalkee finishes on a high
Rams, Kees win final two HDFNL senior premierships for 2024.
Natimuk United claimed a memorable 35-32 victory against Noradjuha Quantong in the HDFNL C Grade grand final.
The Rams came into the match as underdogs, with the defending champions and minor premiers heavily favoured.
Undeterred, Natimuk United showed that anything can happen in a grand final and took a 10-9 lead going into the first break.
While Bombers' goal shooters Sharon Fedke and Bree Stonehouse scored at one end, Courtney Mason and Courtney Cameron were replying at the other for the Rams.
An event eight-eight split in the second quarter gave Natimuk United the slimmest lead in the main break.
With the wild weather easing, the Rams turned up the heat on Noradjuha Quantong and extended the lead to four goals at the final break.
Fedke scored 10 goals in the final quarter, while Mason added seven goals.
In the end, the margin was too significant to overcome, and the Rams won by three goals.
Mason finished with 22 goals for Natimuk United, while Cameron added 11.
Fedke scored 22 for Noradjuha Quantong, while Stonehouse had nine.
Kalkee finished the day on a high, winning the C Reserve grand final 38-22 against Noradjuha Quantong.
The Kees looked comfortable all afternoon, establishing a seven-goal lead at quarter time, which extended to 13 at the main break.
A 12-7 third quarter gave Kalkee a 32-15 margin at the final break.
With one hand firmly on the premiership cup, the Kees had a quieter 6-7 final term but ultimately won by 16 goals.
Sophie Pietsch scored 22 goals for Kalkee, and Chloe Reinheimer and Emma Kemp added nine and seven, respectively.
Emma Criddle finished with 18 goals for the Bombers.
