Jack Sawyer has been selected to represent Victoria at the Australian Little Athletics Track and Field Championships to be held in Brisbane on April 13-14.

Sawyer will compete in the 400m, the 4x100m relay, and run the 400m leg of the medley relay.

The selection comes after an exceptional performance at the Victorian Little Athletics Championships, where Sawyer claimed gold in the under-13 boys' 400m, while also coming fourth in the 200m.

Club president Ben Sawyer said it was a deserved achievement for Jack, after the young sprinter set the goal of making the state team last season.

“At the end of last season, Jack set himself a goal of wanting to make the state team for Little Athletics, having been in the School Sports Victoria (SSV) team,” he said.

“His uniform turned up a few days ago, so he’s very excited, and he can’t wait to head up.

“A lot of his mates that are in the team with him are kids he has run with at SSV, so they’ve become pretty close, and it’s a great opportunity for him to catch up with them as well.”

Jack’s selection marks the second consecutive year that Horsham Little Athletics will have state representatives compete at the nationals.

Georgia Foster and Jett Hill competed at the 2025 championships, with Foster coming away with two gold medals, a silver and a bronze, and Hill winning a silver and a bronze.

The president said the ongoing achievements of the centre are a reflection of the talent and hard work of the club’s young athletes.

“We punch above our weight in terms of our size and the number of really good quality athletes that have managed to represent Victoria,” Sawyer said.

“Georgia and Jett have gone on to do other things as well with their running and producing great results, which is just great to see.

“Hopefully, Jack will follow that up as well, and it would be great if we get a few more coming through over the next couple of years.

“We see how hard some of these kids train, and they do work really, really hard."
