Membership of a new Horsham tool library will allow people to borrow anything from a shovel to a high-pressure washer.

The library is the latest project for Horsham Neighbourhood House and aims to make life a little easier for the home renovator or gardener.

Neighbourhood House manager Charlie Helyar said people were finding the current economic climate difficult and there was a growing need for any help that could be given.

"People are doing it tough and need help," Mr Helyar said.

"Often a job is left undone if an expensive tool is needed for just that one job."

Organiser Caeleb Warren said a $50 annual membership would allow people to borrow any items on hand for a week at a time.

People could renew the loan further if the item remained available.

"Many basic items are very expensive and that cost often prevents people carrying out renovations or repairs," Mr Warren said.

He said the new tool library was modelled on one in Ballarat which was working successfully.

Neighbourhood House staff said they were grateful to Bunnings Horsham for the donation of many items.

The tool library's hours are 10am to noon Monday to Friday.
