New DDTA tennis season underway
The Dimboola District Tennis Association was back in action Friday, October 3, with all eight teams taking to the courts to kick off round one under lights.
Round one saw Dimboola host Antwerp.
In the mixed, it was Dimboola in a close one, winning three sets, 40 games to Antwerp, two sets, 30 games to begin the night.
In the women's, Antwerp came out strong, winning four sets, 39 games to Dimboola’s two sets, 32 games.
The men were evenly matched, seeing both sides pick up two sets apiece, with Dimboola winning 28 games to Antwerp’s 24.
The overall score was Dimboola two match points, seven sets and 100 games, to Antwerp two match points, eight sets and 93 games.
Arkona took on Warracknabeal, where the night began evenly in the mixed, with Arkona just edging out Warracknabeal to win three sets, 32 games to Warracknabeal’s two sets, 36 games.
In the women's, Warracknabeal edged out Arkona to win four sets, 50 games to Arkona's two sets, 29 games.
In the men's, Warracknabeal was too strong, winning four sets, 36 games, to Arkona's zero sets, 12 games.
The overall score was Warracknabeal four match points, 10 sets, 122 games to Arkona, one match point, five sets and 73 games.
Rainbow hosted Jeparit, where Rainbow got off to a good start in the mixed winning five sets, 49 games to Jeparit's one set, 20 games.
In the men’s and women’s competition, it was the same, with Rainbow grabbing the points with six sets, 54 games, to Jeparit's 0 sets, 14 games in the men’s, and four sets, 43 games to Jeparit’s one set, 27 games in the women's.
The overall score saw Rainbow claim five match points, 15 sets and 146 games to Jeparit's zero match points, two sets, 61 games.
The final match of the round was Hopetoun versus Brim.
In what was a back-and-forth battle, it was Brim who edged out Hopetoun in the mixed, three sets, 29 games to Hopetoun's one set, 27 games.
In the men’s, Brim again held off Hopetoun to win three sets, 29 games to Hopetoun's one set, 30 games.
In the women’s competition, Hopetoun were too strong, winning three sets, 33 games to Brim's one set, 19 games.
The overall score was Brim three match points, seven sets, 77 games to Hopetoun, two match points, five sets and 90 games.
