Councillor Andrew McLean and Councillor Corinne Heintze have been appointed Mayor and Deputy-Mayor respectively at the Statutory Meeting of Yariiambiambiack Shire Council on November 12.

The Hopetoun Ward representative was elected to the position following a Statutory Council Meeting on Wednesday, November 12.

Dunmunkle Ward councillor Corinne Heintze was appointed deputy mayor.

Chief executive Tammy Smith congratulated the new leadership team.

“On behalf of the Yarriambiack Shire Council team, I wish to congratulate mayor Andrew McLean and deputy mayor Corinne Heintze for being duly elected,” she said.

Ms Smith also took the opportunity to acknowledge the service of outgoing mayor Kylie Zanker, who held the role for the past four years.

“I also wish to acknowledge the work of outgoing mayor, councillor Kylie Zanker,” she said.

“During her four-year tenure as mayor, Cr Zanker played a key role in advocacy efforts, including securing the Murtoa Early Years Precinct and advancing commitments for Rabl Park, ANZAC Park, and the Beulah Supermarket.

“While some promises made by the opposition were not realised, these outcomes reflect the Mayor’s dedicated service.”

Under Cr Zanker’s leadership, the council achieved several significant milestones, including the affordable housing initiative, upgrades to netball and tennis courts in Brim and Rupanyup, and the construction of new changerooms at Rupanyup and Beulah.

The council also delivered road improvements across the region, including the Sea Lake-Lascelles, Banyena-Pimpinio, and Hopetoun-Yaapeet roads.

Ms Smith said these projects represent just a portion of the achievements made under Cr Zanker’s tenure.

“The team at Yarriambiack is committed to achieving the Council Plan objectives under the leadership of Mayor McLean and continuing to build upon the councillors’ collective efforts, advocacy, and service to their shire,” she said.
