The decision was made at the first council meeting of the year, on February 5.

In May 2023 council contracted Thomson Hay Landscape Architects to develop the masterplan which included key components such as a new amenities block, enhanced powered sites, accommodation cabins, and improved vehicle/caravan access and facilities for park users.

The draft was then provided to those responsible for the caravan park at the time as well as the Nhill A&P Society and Nhill Vintage Machinery Club before being released publicly.

Council endorsed the release of the draft masterplan to the public for comment and review from May 9 to June 7 2024.

The community voiced concerns regarding the entrance and access to the caravan park, including an emergency exit.

"The entrance has always been a bit of an issue there and has been for many decades in relation to the truck parking area, access to the caravan park, access to the A&P society area there, and this certainly looks like it finally addresses the issue," Cr Tony Clark said.

Other community feedback included improvement of aesthetics, removal of screen plantings around the playground, and operation of entry and exit boom gates.

The vote was unanimous, all councillors being in favour of adopting the masterplan.

"With the shire taking over this caravan park, I think it has the potential to be brilliant," Cr Clark said.

"The location is brilliant, the access can be fantastic, and this is what it addresses as well as part of it.

"I think this is a fantastic plan."

The detailed plan is on council's website.
