Nominations open for Australia Day awards
Horsham Rural City Council is calling on community members to help recognise the people and groups who make Horsham a better place by nominating them for the 2027 Horsham Australia Day Awards.
Horsham Rural City Council is calling on community members to help recognise the people and groups who make Horsham a better place by nominating them for the 2027 Horsham Australia Day Awards.
Nominations are now open for the annual awards program, which celebrates individuals and community groups whose dedication, leadership, volunteerism and service make a meaningful contribution to the Horsham municipality.
Residents are encouraged to nominate those who inspire others, strengthen community connections and help make Horsham a vibrant and inclusive place to live, work and volunteer.
Mayor Brian Klowss said the awards provided an important opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of local people and organisations.
“Every year, we see remarkable examples of community spirit from individuals and groups who give their time, energy and expertise to support others,” he said.
“The Australia Day Awards are an opportunity to recognise and celebrate those contributions and to thank the people who help make our community stronger.
“There are many deserving individuals and groups whose work often happens quietly behind the scenes, and I encourage residents to take the time to nominate someone who has made a positive difference.”
The 2027 Horsham Australia Day Award categories are Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year (must be under 25 years of age as at January 26, 2027), and Community Event of the Year.
Nominees must be Australian citizens who live, work or volunteer within the Horsham municipality.
Nominations must be submitted by someone other than the nominee and have the nominee's permission.
In assessing nominations, consideration will be given to the nominee's contribution to the community, their role as a positive role model, voluntary service beyond paid employment, length of service, and the degree of difficulty or sacrifice involved in their achievements.
Nomination forms are available online or in hard copy at the Civic Centre.
Nominations close at 5 pm on Friday, October 16, and award recipients will be announced at the Horsham Australia Day Ceremony on Tuesday, January 26, 2027.
