Official end for retiring councillors

Friday October 25 marked the end of the council term for Yarriambiack Shire Council with councillors meeting for one last time to adopt the annual report 2023-24.

The 15 minute meeting was met with issued permits, ongoing and pending actions for noting before Cr Andrew McLean moved the motion to adopt the annual report with Cr Karly Kirk seconding it.

Four out of the six councillors will continue on their council journey but for Graeme Massey and Tom Hamilton this meeting marked the end as they both jumped to the chance of closing their final meeting.

Councillors and staff gathered together at 'The Local 165' in Warracknabeal to celebrate the two retiring councillors and congratulate them on their hard work.

"I don't regret my decision," Cr Hamilton said. I thank everyone for a great time in council and wish you all the best."

Cr Massey expressed the same remarks and also acknowledged the work of council's CEO.

"You have all been a pleasure to work with," he said.

Mayor Kylie Zanker made a speech at the celebration and also presented both councillors with a certificate of appreciations for their service and dedication of the community.

"It gives me great pleasure and pride to have the opportunity to have served alongside our two outgoing councillors - Cr Massey and Cr Hamilton," Mayor Kylie Zanker said.

"On behalf of our community, my fellow councillors and council staff, I would like to thank both Graeme and Tom for the contribution and service you have offered to your community and the YSC."

Cr Massey was first elected in 2012 before taking on the role of mayor over five consecutive terms from 2016 to 2021.

Outside of council, he is a proactive community member and has served on numerous community groups such as the Historical Society, RSL, Warracknabeal Neighbourhood House. Lions Club and more.

Cr Hamilton served the shire for eight years, holding many delegations such as the Rail Freight Alliance, Wimmera Southern Mallee Development, Warracknabeal Saleyard committee, Yarriambiack Tourism Association and more.

Residing in Murtoa, he has a passion for tourism and showcasing what the town has to offer. This includes the Stick Shed, Murtoa Big Weekend and the silo art that lights up at night.

"It has been a pleasure to have such amazing gentleman to serve with for the benefit of our municipality and I wish both Crs Massey and Hamilton all the best for their future
endeavors," Cr Zanker said.

"Thank you Graeme and Tom."
