Pimpinio celebrate 2005 premiership
Players, coaches and supporters of Pimpinio Football Netball Club’s 2005 premiership-winning men’s senior football side reunited on Saturday to commemorate 20 years since the club’s first senior Horsham District league title.
Members of the 2005 side were in attendance for the majority of the day’s action at Pimpinio and watched on as the Tigers’ 2025 senior side defeated Laharum 88-54, an eerily similar scoreline to the 97-61 2005 grand final result between the same sides.
Amidst a day of celebration, 2005 premiership coach Gary Davidson reflected on the side’s success 20 years on.
“The most vivid memories of the season itself are of a united club enjoying each other’s success,” Davidson said.
“The coaches and players were supported by the community, the coaches felt supported by the players, and the players played as a team with a common goal in mind.”
The premiership team vocally supported the 2025 Pimpinio side throughout the game, giving particular applause to halfback Daniel Baker who was part of both the 2005 and 2025 senior teams.
Baker was named best on ground for his 2005 grand final performance and remains a vital part of Pimpinio’s current team, providing critical defensive disruption throughout Saturday’s game.
Matt Beddison, captain of Pimpinio’s 2005 premiership side, highlighted the significance of the premiership and the reunion.
“It’s reunions like these that show how big premierships and success mean to small country clubs,” Beddison said.
“But the biggest thing for me is the mateship you create from playing footy together.
“You may not ever run into these blokes for years but you always have that common ground when you know you have played alongside them and achieved something pretty cool.
“Lifelong friendships and memories is what it’s all about.”
One of the highlights of the day was players from both the 2005 and 2025 sides joining together to sing the team song following the victory.
