Despite a slow start at Cameron Oval, where they trailed by 22 points at one stage, Pimpinio fought back strongly to claim a six-point victory.

Laharum led 21-9 at quarter-time and extended their advantage to 42-48 at half-time, but Pimpinio closed the gap in the third quarter and finished strongly in the final term to secure the win.

Pimpinio senior football coach Guy Smith said he felt good about the result, especially given the challenges the team faced heading into the match.

“I’m feeling good as we went into the game undermanned, missing key players,” Smith said.

“We knew we needed to play our best.

“We had a slow start and they had a 22-point lead at one stage of the game.

“Both teams were extremely well matched and arm-wrestled through the game.”

Smith praised the return of Daniel Baker, who played a key role throughout the match, while Cullen Williams impressed up forward, finishing with four goals.

“Daniel Baker made a return and played a key role in the win as he played throughout the game,” Smith said.

“Cullen Williams was fantastic up forward and finished with four goals.”

He also highlighted strong performances by several other players.

“Jason Westley in the midfield and Daniel Baker and Matthew Rosier in defence were the outstanding players of the game.”

Looking ahead, Smith said the team would stick to their plan as they prepared to take on Kalkee this weekend.

“We’ll still stick to our plan in the coming games,” he said.

“Missing players will return and that will make us stronger.

“We’re facing Kalkee in the next game and will try to play our A game.”

Final score: 11.12 (78) – 12.11 (83)
