Wheatlands Museum recently took ownership of a antique potato planter, donated by the Daylesford Historical Society.

The Iron Age single-row planter was manufactured in Pennsylvania, USA, by F.A.Farquhar, in approximately 1923.

After being restored to its former glory by Wheatlands Museum volunteers Gordon Mills and Graeme Werner, it was taken on a trial run last Saturday.

The potato planter worked so well that the museum has decided to plant a crop of potatoes on the south-east side, using a small Ford 2000 tractor and the potato planting machine.

If you are interested in watching the planting and seeing this 100-year-old machine in action, you are invited to come out to the museum at around 2pm tomorrow, September 2.

Four varieties of potatoes will be planted, and you will be able to watch the crop grow in coming months.
