Police to begin Operation Safeguard
Local police will be working with fire agencies for their forthcoming fire prevention operation, Operation Safeguard.
Western Region Division Four Superintendent Sharon McCrory said the aim is to prevent fires and protect the safety of communities.
"The catch phrase is 'You light it, you own it'," she said.
"Meaning if you are responsible for it, we will investigate it."
Supt McCrory said it reaches across recklessly lit fires, use of machinery on Total Fire Ban days and more.
"It's to help keep the community safe as we all know fires can have devastating affects," she said.
Police will investigate and take action to catch those responsible when a fire is deemed suspicious.
