“You need to post your completed ballot pack before 6pm, noting local clearance times may vary,” Electoral Commissioner Sven Bluemmel said.

Eight candidates have nominated for Hindmarsh Shire Council, with two due to be elected unopposed and the other six competing for four seats - two in each of the remaining wards.

Fifteen candidates are vying for six seats in Northern Grampians Shire, while Horsham Rural City Council has 15 candidates standing across their seven single-councillor wards.

In West Wimmera Shire, which is not subdivided into wards, six candidates are standing for five seats, and in Buloke Shire, eight candidates are vying for six seats.

Yarriambiack Shire attracted only six candidates for its three wards, each due to be elected unopposed.

Candidates for election can nominate in any ward regardless of where they live or own property.

However, residents must vote in the ward that they live in.

Voting is compulsory for voters who were on the state or council roll for this election at 4pm on Wednesday August 7.

Enrolled voters who don’t vote may be fined.

Election Day is Saturday October 26, and all results are to be declared by Friday November 15.
