Preparing for the National Census
As Census night approaches, it is important to understand how and why your data is collected and used.
On Tuesday, August 11, all households must complete either the paper or online Census form.
As Australia’s only nationwide statistical survey, the Census gathers information such as age, education, personal characteristics, and cultural background for each household member.
In rural areas, the Census enables businesses and governments to monitor population changes and assess regional needs, helping to identify appropriate services for each community.
Emily Walter, Census national spokesperson, stated that the Australian Bureau of Statistics has already received over one million completed Census forms.
"With census night only a week away, we're reminding everyone that you can complete your Census early if you know where you'll be on Census night," she said.
"Most households across Australia have started to receive Census letters with instructions on how to complete their Census, or how to order a paper form.
"If you are yet to receive your instructions or would like to complete the Census separately from the rest of your household, head to the Census website to get a Census number or request a paper form."
If you will not be at your usual residence on August 11, visit the Census website to indicate if your household will be vacant and whether residents will be staying elsewhere or travelling.
