YARRIAMBIACK Shire is set to receive over $85K to go towards the development of Murtoa’s Rabl Park.

The State government 2022 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund grants were announced on May 23 and included $88,867 towards a pump track, play space and connecting shared pathway at Murtoa's Rabl Park.

The Shire also received $30,000 towards council masterplans for Minyip and Hopetoun Recreation Reserves and the Warracknabeal Recreation Precinct.

"This funding announcement is very welcome and allows us to progress exciting projects to the next level," Yarriambiack Shire Council Mayor Kylie Zanker said.

"We understand how important sport and recreation facilities are to our communities, especially after years of enduring (the) pandemic.

"These projects will have a positive impact on our residents for many years to come."

The Fund will source materials from local businesses and will also generate economic activity and hundreds of employment opportunities for planners, architexts, engineers, project managers, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, maintenance staff, facility managers and operational personnel.

"We are particularly excited about the (Rabl park project), our Murtoa community (has) been advocating strongly for these projects and it's great that we can make this a reality," Mayor Zanker said.

"A special mention goes out to Murtoa College students who invited Councillors to their class and presented the project to us and spoke about how important a pump track, amongst other things, is to the enjoyment of youth in our communities."

These projects will commence in the 2022-2023 financial year.

"With more Yarriambiack locals wanting to engage in sporting activities, we are getting on with upgrading infrastructure so clubs can keep up with soaring demand, while also making them accessible and more inclusive," Member for Western Jaala Pulford said.

The Local Sports Infrastructure Fund aims to upgrade sports venues, construct female-friendly change facilities and build active recreation infrastructure across local communities.

The funds will support five funding streams including indoor stadiums and aquatic facilities, female-friendly facilities, lighting for communty sports, community facilities and planning with $10 million set to be used exclusively for female-friendly facilities as a way to enagage more women and girls in sports.

Interested clubs can contact their local councils for help with the application process.

"I urge councils and sporting organisations to partner and apply for projects that will make a real difference to the lives of Victorians," Ms Pulford said.
